From Velvar to the State Opera of the National Theatre!

The National Theatre in Prague is one of the most famous theatres in the Czech Republic. The Neo-Renaissance building of the theatre is one of the most important buildings in the country, both from the point of view of general national culture and history, as well as from the purely architectural point of view. The Prague State Opera House is one of the four stages currently owned by the National Theatre in Prague. The National Theatre Opera Company and the National Theatre Ballet Company are active here.

Lady Macbeth

Lady Macbeth was written in 1930 by composer Dmitri Shostakovich and was first performed to great acclaim at the St Petersburg Theatre in 1934. However, its success lasted only until January 1936, when Stalin visited the performance and the opera had to be withdrawn from the repertoire in the Soviet Union. Significantly, it was not even allowed to be performed in Nazi Germany. In Russia, Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth could not be performed again until 1963, but this was in a new adaptation of the opera with the "fitting" title Katerina Izmaylova.

After Shostakovich's death in 1975, most opera houses returned to the original version of the opera, which is the basis for the new production at the State Opera.

The request for the production of the production was for 100m2 of high quality corrugated sheet in aluminium and natural material.

COMAX Corrugated Sheet

The ideal candidate was COMAX Corrugated Sheet 27/115 in aluminium with a material thickness of 0.60mm and an effective width of 1040mm in a natural unpainted finish, which perfectly met the customer's brief. The production and transport of the material was carried out within the standard timeframe, and it was therefore able to be unloaded in ten days at the National Theatre studio, where it underwent further refinement during the summer into the final form of the production. Don't be fooled by the design of the back of Vlnka, which is visibly tanned, a result of welding during the construction of the structure, and is an artificially created gloomy stylisation of old Russia.

The result is a truly hilarious vision of a turntable symbolizing enclosure and unfreedom - judge for yourself!

We are glad that an honest Czech product has become a part of the National Theatre, which we consider one of the greatest symbols of our country.
